How to Create Successful Goals

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”

Many of us have goals that we would like to accomplish, however we never let those goals fall by the wayside because we don’t have to tools to execute the goals. How many times have you said I want to change something or do something different, however that’s as far as it goes. As someone who has struggled with this in the past, I have learned some valuable tools that have helped me to accomplish the goals and create the life that I want.  The very first step in creating a goal is the write it down. Let me say this again, WRITE IT DOWN. I believe in the Law of Attraction and believe that once your goal is given life, you have a better chance of being attracting what you want. I continue to write all of my goals in my journal. These goals are broken down from short term goals to long term goals and each have completion dates. So once you create these goals, what the next step? The following are steps outline how to create SMART goals.

Specific: What exactly do you want to achieve?  Goal objectives should address the five Ws… who, what, when, where, and why.

Measurable: Measurable goals means that you identify exactly what it is you will see, hear and feel when you reach your goal. It means breaking your goal down into measurable parts. You’ll need concrete evidence. Being happier is not evidence; not smoking anymore because you adhere to a healthy lifestyle where you eat vegetables twice a day and fat only once a week, is.

Attainable: Is your goal attainable? That means investigating whether the goal really is acceptable to you. You weigh the effort, time and other costs your goal will take against the profits and the other obligations and priorities you have in life. You never want to create a goal that is not realistic or set yourself up for failure. That being said, you also don’t want to limit yourself.

Relevant: Is reaching your goal relevant to you? The main questions, why do you want to reach this goal? What is the objective behind the goal, and will this goal really achieve that?

Time – bound:  Make a tentative plan of everything you do. Everybody knows that deadlines are what makes most people switch to action. So install deadlines, for yourself and go after them. Keep the timeline realistic and flexible, that way you can keep your morale high.

This is just a quick outline to help you with managing some of your goals. However if you struggle with goal setting but have a strong desire to make lasting change, perhaps a life coach is just what you need to help you create the life you want. Happy Goal Setting!!!!
